J. Derek Larson,
Owner and Operator
My wife and I moved to Truckee in 1998. We were both teachers in
the San Franciso Bay Area and were attracted to Truckee because of the
mountain lifestyle and the at that time, affordable housing
prices. We moved to Prosser Lakeview and rode the real estate
boom up into a lot in Tahoe Donner where we managed to build our own
home. I am now an Adjunct Professor of
Biology at Sierra College in Truckee. As much as I love the work, it is
part-time and is not enough to support living in the Tahoe area.
Snow removal seemed to be the perfect niche to fill in the highest part
of Tahoe Donner, and it is the perfect complement to part time
teaching–since class is cancelled on the heaviest snow days! I
have always enjoyed tinkering with machines big and small, and I enjoy
physical labor. In the summer-time, I run a small guide service
and tour company with my wife that guides local outdoor trips as well
as groups in Vietnam and Cambodia. When not teaching or moving
snow, I enjoy time with my kids (ages 6 and 9) in the outdoor
playground of the Sierra.
Hien Nguyen Larson,
Co-Owner
Hien is the Assistant Principal at Truckee Elementary and Glenshire
Elementary Schools. When not being educator extraordinaire, she is
devoted to raising our two children with all the great activities
Truckee has to offer. Hien is the creative and marketing brains
behind our family business(es).
OUR EQUIPMENT
We own two HOLDER tractors (a main and a
backup) with WESTA snowblowers. If you are concerned that this
equipment will not handle our large snow loads in upper Tahoe Donner,
please be assured that this is the same equipment used in Soda Springs,
Alpine Meadows, and other areas with huge snow loads. We have a great
relationship with the sales rep at Donner Pass Truck and Tractor. He
always has us up and running quickly after a breakdown, so you don’t
need to worry about breakdowns causing you to be
stuck for days.
